No! Our WordPress training courses are designed for anyone of any experience. Your Internet experience may be as little as knowing how to surf the net, or you may have some basic web design experience. In either case our training is designed to suit your abilities.

If you are able to copy and paste, upload files from your computer, fill in online forms and drag and drop items, then you will be able to start creating a website in WordPress.

No! With WordPress you can build web pages without needing to know any coding at all. Most layouts and designs can be achieved with drag and dropping and changing spacing using simple WordPress or theme tools. A total beginner can learn all the basics of WordPress in as little as half a day.

If your knowledge of WordPress is slightly more advanced and you want to learn how to alter styling with CSS, or add extra HTML functionality to your website, then we can teach you how to do what you want to achieve.

Technically, yes; but in reality, no. The WordPress admin area is optimised for desktop / laptop-sized computers. On smaller devices it is difficult to use WordPress for more involved tasks. Also, uploading images and other media would be almost impossible on a tablet or smaller device.

All our training sessions need to be done on a desktop or laptop computer. Online courses also need the ability for screen sharing, which is not easily done from mobile devices.

Our WordPress training in Bristol can take place in one of two ways:

1. In your premises (travelling fees may apply - please ask).
2. Online using Google Remote Desktop to share screens with audio being shared via telephone, Skype, Teams or Zoom.

The feedback we have received from clients is that the online WordPress training using screen sharing has been more productive for them as both the trainer and student are sharing the same screen and are both able to interact with WordPress during the training.

We recommend the half day WordPress training course, which lasts approximately 3½ - 4 hours, including any breaks needed. This is an optimal length of time for a training session, as there is a lot of information to learn and process. For many people, the full day course is too intensive and concentration can be lost by the end of the day!

A half day session is usually enough for most people to either be able to learn most of what they want to learn about how to use WordPress.

Our clients tend to come in two categories:

• Those who want to learn to manage and edit a WordPress website.
• Those who want to try and build a WordPress website from scratch.

A half day session will be enough for the student in the second category to realise whether they have the ability to build a website from scratch, or not. In many cases we find that we are asked to help them create the website and their training then enables them to be able to add or edit content and manage the website, like the first category clients.

It depends upon your requirements.

Some people prefer to learn alone. However, sometimes two or more people may need be trained into how to use WordPress. The number of people being trained will determine how the training is carried out.

In our experience, one-to-one training is the most effective, as the student can concentrate on what they specifically want to learn.

ONLINE TRAINING

• Single person - we share a computer using Google Remote Desktop.
• Two or three people at the same location - you both share the same computer which is connected with your trainer via Google Remote Desktop.
• Two or three people at different locations, or larger groups - the training would have to be done via Zoom or Teams, but you would not be able to directly interact with WordPress, as the screen footage can only be displayed, not be used interactively.

TRAINING ON YOUR PREMISES

• Single person - sitting side-by-side at the same computer.
• Two or three people - sitting side-by-side with the computer connected to a large monitor.
• Larger groups - You will need to provide a projector or large screen suitable to be viewed by all students. Individual access to the training website can be provided for students to have hands-on experience of some parts of the training, but they will need to have their own computer / laptop to do this.

For much of the course we will use the default WordPress theme. The reason for this is so that you are able to competently create content on a page or post using the native WordPress Gutenberg editor / page builder, which will work with all themes.

There are thousands of different WordPress themes available and each one is very different to the next in how it is constructed and is used. If you need more advanced training, we always use Themeco's Pro Theme, which is by far one of the most advanced themes available and the one we recommend to you. First-time WordPress users are often taken in by a theme's sales pitch where they like the sales images of websites built using the theme. This is an ill-advised way to choose a theme, as the theme is really the box of tools to make your website work efficiently and be built to best-practices. there are too many themes out there which have poor coding or are not likely to be supported for the long term. This is why we use Pro for all our websites, as it is here for the long haul and with cutting edge new features being released on a regular basis.

If you want to learn with your own theme, we offer this service, but we will need to either train on your website, or you will need to provide us with a copy of the theme and its licence to install on our training website.
